Comfort Zone

Updated: May 1, 2022

All people, have places, habits, or situations where they feel comfortable. This is because the mind is designed to avoid what would be a threat to our security. The comfort zone is extremely pleasant, because then we do not have to accept any challenges, we feel safe and can live a life without any risk. It can be a stable job with no progress, poor nutrition, bad habits, a waste of time on things that don’t make you improve, like watching too much TV, playing video games, etc.… Writer Neale Donald Walsh has said, "Real life begins outside the comfort zone." Only by taking risks and leaving the comfort zone do we give ourselves the opportunity to grow and change. Many people do not do it out of fear, or they do not have set goals, because everything looks fine anyway. Standing in one place is the worst thing you can do in your life and you have to recognize the circle of your comfort zone and take a step out of it. Often when we think about change, we start to worry because we don’t know what to expect when we take action. After all, it is much more comfortable to be in a place where we feel safe. So how do you feel safer in order to take the first step?

A very effective way is to create a plan. When we have a plan to achieve something and set a final goal, it is much easier to see which way to go. In other words, you will never find your way if you do not know where you want to go. Often people fail to change without defining their ultimate goal and do not know what steps to take to get where they want to go. I advice to learn as much information as possible about desired topic. For example, you want to start a new business. Search for information online, try to find like-minded people in the field, and ask for advice from people who are already at the top of the game. Then you will be able to come up with a much more accurate action plan and make fewer mistakes. Never be ashamed to look for information or ask for advice if you don’t know something. No one has been born knowing everything yet, so most successful people who have already accumulated knowledge will be happy to share it.

If you have developed an action plan and gathered enough information on a relevant topic but are still afraid to take the first step out of your comfort zone, start changing the smaller things in your life that make you challenge yourself. A great way is to get up early from bed, exercise, or even take a cold shower. While this may be completely unrelated to your goals, these steps will help build willpower and help to escape comfort zone. We are meant to grow, so start today!
